Absorptance  

Fraction of incident flux absorbed by a surface.

Absorption   

Process by which light is absorbed, either by a surface or by a bulk material.

Area flux density

Area flux density is the flux per unit area, or optical power per unit area on a surface. It is a descriptive term for the irradiance.

Aspheric sag equation is the general equation for specifying the shape of an optic surface.

Axial Ray     

In an imaging system, the axial marginal ray passes through the center of the field of view (or image) and the edge of the aperture stop.

Azimuthal     

Azimuthal average is an average value obtained by averaging around the azimuth direction in polar coordinates.

Baffle       

Structure of four surfaces representing what is often called a baffle vane. A flat baffle might be a sheet of metal with a round hole cut in it and the edge of the hole sharpened like a razor. Four surfaces are used to represent the front and back surfaces, the angled ground edge, and the finite cross-sectional radius of the knife edge itself.
